I AM GETTING ALOT OF FALSE ALERTS ON THE K BAND,
SHOULD I SWITCH IT OFF?
Whilst most false alerts will occour in the X band, driving around with the K
band turned on will undoubtedly give you some false alerts. It is very difficult to completely eliminate
false alerts on the K band, as many other common devices (garage doors,
shopping centre doors etc) work on a very similar frequency to the in car radar
used by police in Western Australia, also on the K band. This means you can not avoid at least some K band false
alerts. The upside is that if you a driving a route you take commonly, you can
get to know hot spots for K band falses, namely near shopping centers or other
commercialised areas, and quickly disregard them as false alerts. The other
positive is that these alerts will only last for a short while, (a few seconds)
as you drive past a source of the K band. The police in car radar however will
alert on the K band also, but will stay alerting for a much longer time as that
radar gun emits a much stronger signal than automatic doors and what not, and
will most likely be easily recognised if you are getting an alert in a place
where you don't normally get a K band false alert.
Because of those points, we recommend leaving K band on, and putting up with a
few false alerts, so when you do encounter a police car with in car radar, you
can allow your radar to give you advanced warning of its presence, so you can
make sure you havn't wandered over the speed limit, before its too late.
Luckily we have found that there are basically no false alerts what so ever on
the Ka Band (band the multanova works on), and as such, every Ka band alert
should be treated as warning of an upcoming multanova. The only exception we
have found is if your mobile phone has an incoming or outgoing call made in
your car, this usually causes a Ka band false alert until the call ceases.
